DAYS: New Writing Team Takes Charge
July 24 script marks the first script penned by DAYS’ new head writers, Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell. Christie Clark says that from that one script she enjoyed their work very much. (aka please hire me back) Discusses that this reboot is much more low key than last one. Shawn Christian says it’s a wonderful transition that is true to what has been created, and then they take the story to extraordinary places. James Scott says it’s a very good team. He feels that Gary Tomlin knows the characters very well, and has alot of writing experience and producing soap operas. It’s been demonstrated to him in the first few months of Tomlin’s writing that his understanding of the characters is comprehensive.
The new writing team is responsible for the cliffhanger on July 27, when DAYS goes off the air for the Olympics coverage. Show returns on August 13 and certain lives will be forever changed.
Eileen Davidson returns beginning October 11 and Blake Berris begins August 27. Stefano (Joe Mascolo) will rise from the dead and Eric Brady comes home this fall, with Greg Vaughn taking over for Jensen Ackles, who left in 2000.
Contrary to published reports, TomSell have no intention of dropping the gay storyline. Chandler Massey points out that Tomlin was the first person who came to him in February 2011 and said there were plans to make Will gay. Now that Will’s come out, look for him to move in new direction with possible romance. Tomlin was also responsible for casting Freddie Smith as Justin and Adrienne’s gay son. Both Kurth and Evans have been on set taping new episodes.
TomSell also penned Molly Burnett’s departure in late September. Casey Diedrick teases that he’s excited for everyone to see what’s ahead. From what he sees, it’s panning out nicely. There are important and nice things coming up soon.
DAYS: Carrie Says Farewell to Rafe
Rafe questions EJ, who realizes Rafe may believe that he’s being framed, after all. EJ isn’t one of Rafe’s favorite people but Rafe also has his integrity. He wants to make sure the case against EJ is solid.
Across town, Austin meets with Kate and announces that he and Carrie are moving to Switzerland. Leaving Salem is the only way to save his marriage. If he stays in town Carrie will always be running into Rafe and whatever feelings she has for him will stay alive. The most important thing for Austin is getting his marriage back on track again.
Carrie seeks out Rafe to break the news that she’s going. It’s a tough situation for Rafe. On the one hand, he’s disappointed that Carrie is leaving. But Rafe realizes that there really isn’t any chance for them. Carrie is still married and pregnant. Rafe isn’t the kind of guy to split up someone’s marriage. (unless it’s EJ’s). Carrie brings up Sami, stating that she believes Rafe still has feelings for his ex, which Rafe denies. Says Rafe’s taken aback that she even mentions Sami. Rafe’s feelings are complicated but he still can’t get past how much she hurt him, especially in the way it was done. how can Rafe ever trust Sami again after something like that has happened?
Carrie turns to leave and it’s left on a very awkward note. Later, when he’s along he finds a picture of Sami in his wallet and he rips it up. Obviously the guy still has alot of anger where Sami is concerned.

Cover Article: Salem Rocks!
It’s a cant’ miss week on DAYS.
The umbrella story begins with Brady and Madison announcing to Ian that they are getting married pronto. They head home for a romantic evening, which is a culmination of their relationship.
Elsewhere, the drama builds with the Salem PD’s case against EJ. He instructs Will to look for the surveillance footage proving he was framed. Will and Sonny check it out. It suggests that EJ is being framed but they are unable to identify the shadowy figure. Then the footage is suddenly deleted.
Will has bigger problems to deal with when Sami blasts him for not revealing that EJ isn’t a DiMera. Will defends EJ and tells Sami that the footage was erased. Will is relieved when Sami shares that she already copied it to a flash drive.
Sami visits EJ at the police station, and overhears EJ passionately proclaiming his innocence to Rafe and decides not to hand over the flash drive to the PD. Alone with EJ, she tells him about the flash drive. A relieved EJ instructs Sami to bring it to his lawyer.
Bo, Hope and Chad confront Gabi about her fingerprints on the note found in Andrew’s basement. She tells them she picked it up and read it. Hope asks if Gabi would be open to being hypnotized by Marlena, but Gabi tries to get out of it by suggesting that Marlena is too busy with her work to drop everything just so Gabi can be hypnotized.
In the tunnels, Mel regains consciousness in Andrew’s arms and plays on his feelings for her, stealing his cell from his pocket. When Andrew leaves her alone, Mel quickly calls Chad. Chad can barely hear Mel, but she keeps repeating the word “tunnels.”
Brady encounters Chad and overhears that conversation. Brady was running errands for his wedding, but decides to help out in the search for Melanie. Brady recalls that there are schematics to the tunnels. Chad and Brady go on an Indiana Jones-style search for Mel. The tunnels are extremely claustrophobic and they realize there’s gas leaks (they can smell and see them).
Gabi also heads for the tunnels. She encounters Chad and Brady and sends them off down the wrong tunnel to search. Gabi, meanwhile, runs into Andrew and Mel, and tries to hide her involvement with Andrew, even though he’s dropping little hints. She’s concerned with Mel, but also realizes if they find out that she had anything to do with Andrew, she’s going to jail. An electric box nearby keeps sparking and all of a sudden, there’s an explosion and lots of debris that falls on Mel, Gabi and Andrew. They’re all injured with Andrew severely hurt because he is caught under a pillar. Chad and Brady are knocked out. When they wake up, they agree to separate and continue the search. Mel and Gabi come to. Gabi fakes her ankle is hurt and it’s her excuse to have Mel get help. After Mel leaves, Andrew wakes up. Gabi tells him that there’s still time for him to get away. She makes it clear that there are other people in the tunnel, the police are on their way and if Andrew just leaves, he can escape to another country and no one has to know what he does.
Abe, Cameron and Abby are preparing the fundraiser in Lexie’s honor. Madison is dressed in her wedding gown, waiting for Brady. Ian arrives and taunts her that Brady changed his mind about the wedding. John takes exception and defends his son.
At the mansion, Roman is on the hunt for EJ, who has been bailed out by Sami. Roman questions Will, who is deliberately vague. Sami and EJ connect with Will and make arrangements for him to bring Johnny and Allie to a warehouse so that EJ can see his children one last time. Will takes care fo it, not realizing that he’s being trailed by Roman and Lucas. Roman aims his gun at EJ, who is on a catwalk. Sami immediately places herself in front of EJ and directs him to run.
Suddenly, the town is hit by a huge explosion that places Daniel, Nicole, Bo, Hope, John, Marlena, Abe and nearly all of Salem in peril and leaves Sami hanging from the catwalk. In the tunnels, Mel, Brady, Chad and Gabi’s lives are also in jeopardy.
The whole town is shaken. There are people who do not survive the explosion……
What Will Happen
