We had it so good a year ago today. These touching scenes happen soon after EJ tells Sami that he loves her and it’s the first time they’ve been able to really talk to each other since then. EJ is stressed about all the outside forces and his bad mistake ruining what he’s building with Sami. He’s brooding. Sami teases him about being a crime boss, which he is but she certainly doesn’t seem to mind in that moment.
There are so many good things about this episode. First, we see a softer Sami. Is it just us or does she act completely different around him when they are having happy times? Her happy times with EJ are so much better than her happy times with Rafe. It’s more genuine. And it’s very cute that she’s a bit shy about asking him along to her picnic.
One bit of classic Sami is that she has insecurities and feels stupid sometimes. EJ always handles that very well. He’s right there to praise her and make her feel better about herself. He puts her on a pedestal and sees her in a way that no one else does, including herself. When she talks about needing to establish herself and her life, he won’t stop her and he encourages her to do what makes her happy, even if that means he has to let her go. (Are those real tears forming in his eyes?) It was a genuine moment between them that gave us all hope that somehow, someway these two can work through the obstacles that always pop up, because when they’re happy and together, it’s magic.
And then there is the flirting. Goodness, the flirting. It’s off the charts really. She invites him to the picnic and he’s so excited. Before they leave, they have this moment while sitting on the coffee table where they are ultimately connecting. It’s romance that we didn’t think was possible for this show.
So relive the memories of this short and sweet EJami episode.
A year ago today we were all hot and bothered. We were bothered over the fact that Ken Corday shot his stupid mouth off and told us that the viewers didn’t want EJami and that they wouldn’t make it to labor day. We were hot because what we were seeing on screen and what we were hearing around the interwebs was an absolute contradiction to that comment.
We were also hot and bothered in the traditional sense, because EJ and Sami were on fire. Their chemistry and sexual tension was heating up and the character’s raw emotions were on display for us to indulge in.
When EJ can come to terms with the fact that he loves Sami, he goes all in. This we know all too well. And what’s best is that he knows her heart and her mind so well, he doesn’t even have to hear her admit it back.
He knows. We know. She knows…. but she just can’t admit it. Stubborn Brady.
When EJ leans in and whispers that “because this is so real, this is so deep, this is so… perfect,” it’s like he’s saying what we’ve all been feeling for years. And Sami, well if she panted any harder or wanted him any more, this episode wouldn’t be appropriate for daytime, or for NBC for that matter. Damn.
At the end, when he kisses her before he goes, he leaves us all (including Sami) speechless and wanting more.
This was a day that made us love to watch Days of Our Lives, and love soaps in general. It was a reminder of all that can be, and what magic they (TPTB) have right under their nose.
There are many days in EJami’s epic history that make us weak at the knees, but THIS DAY is the day that makes us tumble over. It’s the day that EJ and Sami made love and what an episode it was. Folks in the EJami community can reflect on that episode so fondly and pretty much everyone has a where were you the day EJami did it story. Many of us recall fondly gathering at FL, and gushing with pure excitement at the thought of our couple finally making love. DAYS’ Powers That Be should take note of that – there are few couples than can generate that kind of excitement and buzz like EJami.
In the days leading up to this episode, a particular opposing fanbase interpreted the spoilers that EJ and Sami were going into the bedroom as that they would be taking a nap together. EJami fans latched onto that hilarious notion and forevermore refer to these scenes as EJami napping.
Without further ado, enjoy EJami napping each other brains out. They actually arc over three episodes, but the real good stuff happened on May 20.
And in case you didn’t know, May is always a wonderful month for EJamis to celebrate because that is when they met. Head on over to Forbidden Love (member login required) to participate in the five year anniversary celebration!
We joked in Rogue HQ this morning that turning toward 2007 for This Day In EJami is almost too easy, especially this time of year, but we just can’t resist another great EJami clip from that era.
As you recall, EJ and Sami had it out not long before this and she walked out of his life. EJ, being rather adorable, goes to church on Christmas Eve, prays for unconditional love, and gets a wonderful pep talk from Tony. His brother encourages him to give his heart to Sami. To love her the way he wants to be loved and so EJ resolves to be a better man. The first test comes after Lucas has decided to flee the country. EJ decides to step in and help Sami stop Lucas from making that mistake. She’s suspicious of his motives, but they are pure. EJ explains that he wants his son to see him in a good light, and the best way to do that is to have her see him that way first. She slowly opens the door to trusting him again by letting him watch Johnny and Allie.
Watch the clip, remember how anything is possible, and remember that even when they hit the bottom they have a way of coming back around toward each other.
EJami hasn’t had the best luck at Christmas, but there was a very little moment that they shared back in 2008 when Sami was stuck in witness protection. Her father arranged for her to do a video chat with Johnny and Allie. This meant the world to her. Then EJ gets to talk to her. It’s a very sweet moment and it was meaningful to her as well, because let us not forget, Sami was in love with him at this time. It wasn’t the most obvious love and she was stubborn about it, but she did love him and she did miss him. While EJ was with Nicole, it was clear that the connection between EJ and Sami was still very much there, much to Nicole’s dismay.
Things for our couple seemed so much less complicated back in 2006, even though things were anything but simple.
Let us refresh your memory. Sami had just recently overheard EJ on the phone revealing his connection to Stefano. She freaked out and fled their marketing event in Talladega. She did what she does best and lied that Will needed to have emergency surgery. She then huddled with the police (a.k.a., her family) and developed a plan that would set EJ up to get arrested at a boathouse. The scene on this day in 2006 was her attempt to convince EJ that she could help him escape if he met her at the boathouse.
She uses her charm and she uses his weakness, her, as bait. Even though she was lying, there is so much truth in the words she’s saying that’s it’s almost like a liberating moment for her. Yes, she’s trying to deceive him (it doesn’t work, of course), but there’s a lot going on in those words. Christmas means family, and Sami has always struggled to live up to her family’s expectations. She knows that and admits that EJ likes her for who she is, the good and the bad, and EJ certainly doesn’t deny it. There is undeniable hope in EJ’s eyes. He asks, “You want me, as much as I want you?” This woman has his number. And we contend that she always will, no matter who he moves on with.
Today’s clip is a continuation from yesterday’s classic EJami fight. A lot of folks asked yesterday, is this the fight where she knocks him onto the ground? Not quite, that fight happened on this day back in 2007.
The dialog between EJ and Sami is sharp and deliberate. Not a single word is wasted that doesn’t provide some overall point about where they stand. EJ is a total dick. He keeps threatening her family if she doesn’t stay, but we just think that’s a little desperation mixed with a little DiMera charm. Sami is a total bitch. She likes to hit him where it hurts, but that’s because she’s so rattled by him and the time they’ve spent together. He, of course, totally takes it and hits right back.
E.J.: You don’t mean that.
Sami: Oh, I do. I want this marriage over right now.
E.J.: Look, I don’t think you’re in any frame of mind to be making life-altering decisions, let alone decisions that could affect the safety of your family.
Sami: Are you threatening me again?
E.J.: No, absolutely not. What I’m suggesting is that maybe we should revisit this when you’ve calmed down a little.
Sami: There’s nothing to revisit. You think I’m not worried about my family? Of course I am.
[Scoffs] But that doesn’t mean I have to stay married to you. There has got to be another way to protect them because I am not subjecting myself to being raped again by you. And they wouldn’t want me to.
He calls her out on her true feelings, and when he does this, Sami is startled.
E.J.: Get out. Get out! Go on, out! You want to get out? Go! You’ll be back. You know why? ‘Cause you need me. ‘Cause you want me.
In return she points out the one thing that makes us love EJami. That they are the same. That he is her match. And what we all know, is that while in this scene Sami tried to say that she is none of those things anymore, we know that she still is.
Sami: I don’t have to listen to this.
E.J.: Samantha. I know that what I’m saying frightens you, but that’s because deep down, you know that it’s true.
Sami: [Laughs] You think you know me so well. You don’t. But I know you ’cause you’re exactly how I used to be and then some. You’re sneaky, selfish, thinking only of yourself and what you want. Somehow, I managed to outgrow that. I don’t think you ever will. So, go ahead. Call Stefano. Tell him what I’ve done. Tell him to dust off the vendetta, get it going again. I’m getting the twins and getting out of here.
E.J.: Samantha, if you do this, make no mistake. People you love will die.
EJ pulls out the big guns, and says one of our absolute favorite lines….
E.J.: Now, you walk out that door, and you and your family are no longer protected.
Sami: Save it, E.J. ’cause your threats don’t work on me anymore.
E.J.: I thought you cared about your family.
Sami: I care. But the reason I married you was ’cause I thought you were gonna help me end this vendetta. You kept saying that you cared about me and that you had changed, and I wanted to give you the chance to prove it. Well, no more. I’m not wasting any more of my time on you. I’m getting Allie and Johnny and getting out of here.
E.J.: [Laughs] Oh, dear. We both know why you’re doing this, why you’re running away.
Sami: I’m hardly running, E.J. I’m just sick of your games.
E.J.: Let me tell you, all right? It’s because I am this close to being the man you danced with on that pier last summer. You’re enjoying my company. You’ve admitted you’ve started to have all of these feelings for me. That’s the reason you’re still here. You can’t leave.
Sami: You know why I’m still here, E.J.? Because I’ve been dying to do this.
E.J.: Oh! Ow! God! What did you do that for? Get me up! Get me up!
Sami: [Chuckles]
E.J.: All right. Ha ha. You had your fun. Help me up.
Sami: No way. It’s killing you, isn’t it, to lie there looking pathetic, just to maintain this ridiculous charade? Come on, E.J. you don’t have to pretend anymore. Get up. I know you can.
E.J.: Samantha, will you just help me, for God’s sake?
And she just leaves him there. Like we said yesterday, at the time it felt like a major setback. But what grew out of it was pretty damn good. It wasn’t perfect those months when Lucas was in prison, but it was them and that’s who we love.
Can barely function while watching this clip. So much EJami goodness, and amazingly enough the circumstances aren’t so different from this year really, just the execution…ok, and Sami is the one who shot him this time, but still. So much Ejami goodness in this clip that reminds us all exactly WHY we keep going, when everything in us wants to give up.
Sami is by turns, cajoling, teasing, taunting and doing everything in her power to make EJ want to live. She admits she cares, though it pains her to admit it. But above all, the crazy hot chemistry between EJ and Sami is undeniable. Direct penetrating stares that just draw a person in and makes them sit up and take notice, whether they want to or not. These two do it like no other.
There’s so much in this clip to enjoy, we’ll just let it speak for itself.
Sami used to have to great inner/outer monologues, and occasionally, she’d have a guest star in her hallucinations, like Colleen. It’s a sight for sore eyes, since the show has been woefully lacking in giving Sami any motivation that isn’t steeped in self preservation. She says alot about why she shot EJ, but when she’s saying to it the likes of Will or Rafe, people she’s clearly manipulating, then it’s not the truth. What it leaves us with is a murky story, a Sami without a conscience, and that’s simply no fun.
In this episode, EJ is in bad shape after being shot at their first wedding, and Sami spewed alot of hate back then, but the writers made a smart move, and had her conscience take the form of Colleen, her doppelganger great-aunt, to give the audience into her thoughts.
Sami: EJ obviously doesn’t want me. If he did, he wouldn’t send me back home to Lucas, all right? It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. I am finally through with E.J., and that is exactly what we both want.
Colleen: You’re fooling yourself. You’re taking the easy way out. Could it be that you’re a’feared?
Sami: Of what? Of EJ?
Colleen: Of what you feel right here.
Sami saying that EJ doesn’t want her, is alot like what she’s doing now, where she’s saying that EJ just lied, and she’s not sure what he wanted, but she’s acting as if she’s sure he didn’t love her. A good old fashioned talk with herself, or Colleen, would be good right about now.
Another thing us Rogues miss? The flute music. We were getting it alot for a while there, and it triggers so many great feelings for EJami. In an episode like today’s, where Sami was trying to act as if she didn’t care, we had the wonderful balance of Colleen telling the audience the truth, combined with the Santeen flute music. It sent us these wonderful cues that EJami truly did have feelings for each other and that it wasn’t so black & white, but wonderful shades of gray.
Sami finally breaks down and goes to see EJ, and we can honestly say our heart flutter really kicks into high gear at this little bit of dialogue:
EJ: Go and be with Lucas. He’s the one you love.
Sami: What if he’s not?
We thought you might like to see our gray couple in action from 2006. Both Sami and EJ are playing games and trying to do anything but be honest with each other. Despite recent events, I think both have made some strides. However, they have to put in some work to revive “that loving feeling”. We think they can do it. At the very least, it will be fun to see them try.
Sami: Come on. Are you gonna make me say it? I thought you and I could, you know, try again, if you’re still interested.
EJ: How do I know you’re not gonna change your mind?
Sami: Can’t you just take my word for it?
EJ: No. Now if you’ll excuse me….
It almost feels like what we’d say to the Powers that Be if they toy with our emotions about EJami. They keep teasing, and we know it, but we can’t help but go for it anyway….just like EJ.
Without further introduction, here is Sami and EJ from the fall of 2006 when EJ lived just across the hall from #32 in apartment #36.
